Cleaning out the pantry
With my Gluten Free Scanner App in hand, I scanned a handful of items in my pantry to put in a sack to donate to friends. I did find some items that had expired that I was able to toss.
It was bitter-sweet to set some items aside that I won’t be able to eat on a gluten-free diet. It will be sad to see those foods go, but I’m looking at the silver-lining of more energy, better eating, likely some weight loss, and better controlled blood sugar levels.
Lots of websites
The amount of information out there and websites can send me on a never-ending spiral down a rabbit hole of information, here are a few helpful ones I found.
-
- Sources of Gluten ~ celiac.org
- Gluten-Free Foods
Unsubscribing
I receive promotions from Pizza Hutt & Domino’s in my email, I even have their apps on my phone. But alas, I must unsubscribe from their emails so I’m not tempted – best of all, it will cut down on emails.

e meals
My sister sent me a link for emeals which looks like a good way to get started with the right ingredients.
Trader Joe’s
While I was out running errands & Christmas shopping for the fam, I dropped by Trader Joe’s as I was in the neighborhood as there isn’t a store near me.
I walked around & didn’t see a lot of food that displayed, “Gluten-Free” as clearly as I would have liked. A young female clerk approached me as I had the “I can’t find what I’m looking for” look on my face.
She printed out a 7-page list of foods they offer that are gluten-free, she walked me around the store & pointed out some specific items that are in fact, gluten-free – I was clearly able to see the fact. She mentioned she is on a gluten diet, but didn’t elaborate.
I’ll miss you gluten
- I’ve always been a lover of cheesecake, even the 10 carb cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory
- I’ll miss Wheat Thins
- I’ll miss pizza, especially Domino’s
- I’ll miss normal/cheaper bread – I did just try some gluten-free bread, it wasn’t too bad + garlic bread + Hawaiian sweet roles
- I make a ‘mean’ chicken fettucini alfredo – so I’ll miss that
- I’ll miss spaghetti
- I’ll miss mac’n cheese
I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list as I continue this journey and find out more favorite foods that have gluten.
