One Word: Cheesecake

Gluten-Free High Society Cheesecake (thumb model: me)

Before I had celiac and before I moved into my house, I lived near High Society Cheesecake in Lincoln. My guilty pleasure is cheesecake, especially from when I lived in Omaha near The Cheesecake Factory.

But ever since I’ve gone gluten-free, my cheesecake intake has greatly and sadly diminished.

However, yesterday while at the grocery store, I was pleasantly surprised to see they had gluten-free cheesecake in the frozen area from High Society. So, somehow, this box “fell” into my cart. It was a bit pricey, but since I haven’t bought slices over the last few years, I had essentially “saved up” for this box.

The cheesecake itself was delicious as I expected. I’ve never been a huge fan of crust and gluten-free crust can be hit and miss. So I skipped the crust and enjoyed the rest of the slice. One slice down, 3 to go.

Pizza Pizza

I tried Deli International Gluten Free Pepperoni Pizza today.

This has been in my freezer for some time, so on a snowy day, it made for a good lunch item to try out. I may have burned it a bit in my toaster oven. So, I’m only able to eat half of it, even a bit burnt it still tastes pretty good, so I’ll get it again and not burn it next round.

Friendsgiving

Today at work, we had our Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving meal. Everyone brought something. Ironically, I brought bread (sweet rolls to be exact). I didn’t have any.

I skipped bread and dessert items and stuck with meat, potatoes, and bacon.

Moral of the story – always nice to be able to find alternatives and skip what I shouldn’t eat even though I may not know exactly what was in everything I tried that looked delicious.

Association lunch

I went to an AMA luncheon today. I figured I’d be able to avoid gluten.

There was a salad so that was an easy thing to get, I skipped the bread & butter, went for the meat area without the sauce and even got the chicken onto the salad which worked better. And veggies were an easy choice.

And the dessert plate was tempting, but co-workers ate some for me.

At the end of the day, I didn’t have any gluten-related symptoms.

Right choices from a handful of options allow me to eat without issues.

Gluten-free pizza

I’m on a quest to find a good gluten-free pizza as I miss pizza from time to time – especially Domino’s.

My mom shared a good one with me a while back I need to post.

I picked up a pie the other day called Quest from the frozen/gluten-free area at Walmart.

It was okay. A bit pricy for the size, but then most gluten-free foods are pricey. I’d want to try other brands before retrying. It could have been due to baking a bit too long.

But it satisfied my pizza-need. As the toppings were great and I didn’t have to worry if I “accidentally” at the crust or not.
