Gluten-free pizza crust

Yesterday, I ordered Domino’s for dinner. I miss Domino’s since being on a gluten-free diet, but I knew they had a gluten free crust option.

I grabbed my ‘trusty’ app and placed an order. It is a bit pricy for a small pizza, but I do love Domino’s and worth giving it a try since my last gluten-free pizza test at Old Chicago.

In hindsight, I could have loaded it with more toppings like extra cheese to offset the bland crust taste, but all and all not bad considering it still allowed me to enjoy a pizza.

Tortilla Chip Dippers

While at the store the other day, I picked up some dip on the off chance that I’d be able to find some tortilla chips that would be gluten-free.

Sure enough, I found these & they were a decent price & they taste pretty good.gf chips
And sure enough, I’m still a newbie and so it didn’t dawn on me to check the dip. Of course, it contains gluten. I’ll take it as a win, I have chips I can eat & I just need some good gluten-free dip.

A breadless sandwich

I took on a new job yesterday and today was the 1st day in the office where I’ll be working out of – this means I need to audit the food places around me for gluten-free options.

So today, I ventured over to Which Wich, (interesting fact: this place is a favorite sandwich shop of my mom’s), their website has gluten-free options, I picked up a non-breaded wich (Bowlwich).

It was good, especially when I can add avocado. Sure I miss the bread from the last time I had it, but at least there is a nearby option for a spur of the moment lunch if need be.

Friday is a team lunch, rumor is I’m picking the place. I can feel the pressure now.

The Wheat-Free Cook

A few weeks back, I was in Omaha visiting some peeps and I ‘happened’ to stop in the Half Price Bookstore. It is like a treasure hunt of DVDs and gently used books and books on clearance.

I spotted & picked up: The Wheat-Free Cook: Gluten-Free Recipes for Everyone on clearance for $2. It currently looks ‘nice’ among my other cookbooks. I’ll eventually flip through it on a rainy day when I get tired of the same ole, same ole & feel adventurous about hitting the grocery store or Trader Joes or if I’m having people over. Having good options is great, but cooking for one isn’t so fun.

Are gluten-free foods are healthier?

“There are many myths about gluten, but this is perhaps the most common — that gluten-free products are healthier than foods with gluten. But many gluten-free versions of otherwise glutenous foods (such as pasta, bread, and baked goods) are filled with more sugar and sodium and are actually more processed. Additionally, gluten isn’t a harmful substance in itself, unless the person eating the gluten has celiac disease, an allergy, or intolerance.”

Celiac Disease Diagnosis Dilemma

This was a dilemma I faced a few months back when I got my blood test results back, but the gastroenterologist was having me schedule an endoscopy weeks after being gluten-free. I’m glad to know my scenario wasn’t exclusive to just me.

Diagnosis Dilemma: Eating Gluten Again to Test for Celiac Disease ~ glutenfreeliving.com

Experts at celiac disease centers routinely advise those who have symptoms or family members with celiac disease to be tested before starting a gluten-free diet.

In my case, I had started my gluten-free diet weeks before the final official test. I will still get the test done at some point, but for now, being gluten-free has sure been a positive adjustment.
